  Time flew by after election night, and the pace of life didn’t slow down.   “How do you think this sounds?” I asked Gavin as we were lounging on the couch. I was getting ready to go into part of my speech with him.

  “I’m sure it sounds fine,” he quipped back, seeming annoyed. I’d gotten used to his mood swings throughout the pregnancy, and totally understood- but this one seemed especially egregious. Suddenly, he winced in pain.

  “Is everything okay?” I asked.

  “I think- I think I’m having contractions,” he said, in the middle of a deep breath. My heart began to race.

  “We’re getting you to the hospital. Now.”

  Jack Davis Ramsey was born the next morning. I hadn’t slept, but I could do nothing but smile when I looked at Gavin holding our son. When it came my turn to hold him, an indescribable warmth filled me. This was my life now, and it was perfect.

  I looked into Gavin’s eyes as I held his hands and said “I do.” I kissed him passionately. The few people in attendance at our small, private wedding clapped and cheered. I looked at Liz, who already had me leading in the polls for my party’s nomination. She was holding our infant, baby Jack. I turned my gaze back to my beautiful new husband.

  “I know this isn’t what you envisioned…” I started.

  “It’s everything I ever wanted and more, Jack,” Gavin said, cutting me off. “This is the happiest day of my life. I love you, future President Jack Ramsey.” I chuckled.

  “I love you too, future First Gentleman Gavin Ramsey.”
